Scream Season 2 Review: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

2. Each Season Should've Been Standalone

There's a lot to be said for anthology TV shows: True Detective, Fargo and American Horror Story to name just a few have proven how switching out locations and casts every season can keep a show fresh, and Scream would also have benefited hugely from that.

Instead, a lazy cliffhanger was tacked onto the first season so that it could be bled out for more, when another sleepy town with a new cast of youngsters and a new killer mask would've reinvigorated the concept and allowed Season 2 to have a "clean slate" after Season 1's fairly mixed reception.

Ultimately, both seasons are harmed by it being a continuous story, and though in many ways season two feels much more assured, hitting the reset button would've definitely been the smarter choice.
