Michael J. Fox swept into Sacred Heart for two episodes in Scrubs' third season, delivering one of the finest, funniest, and most poignant cameos in the show's history. Several years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991, Fox announced his retirement from acting at the turn of the millennium. However, Bill Lawrence allegedly wrote the part of Dr. Kevin Casey with Fox in mind, foregrounding the condition of OCD in order to allow the actor to take the role. What emerges is a performance which is by turns hilarious and tenderly honest. With knowledge of Foxs own condition adding further heft to his performance, Dr. Kevin Caseys two episodes are both moving and wondrously funny. The conclusion of My Catalyst depicts a man whose seemingly quirky symptoms are actually churning a cycle of self-hatred, and the subsequent episode My Porcelain God offers a strangely whimsical storyline involving an "epiphany toilet" which gives Casey an Everest to conquer. On the basis of Foxs amazingly candid work, and the characters own admirable attributes, Casey is an indelible presence in the show, even with a mere two appearances to his name. Best Line: Everyones got their own burdens, J.D., and Im not gonna be one of those people that dumps mine on somebody else.
