Sex Education: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
8. Ola Nyman
In the opposite way to Jackson, Ola is a character that gradually becomes more interesting and full of personality as the show progresses. She is first introduced as a romantic connection to Otis and works very well for this purpose. But the show always makes it clear that the real romance of the series will be our protagonist and Maeve and thus Ola feels inconsequential.
However, the second season introduces a wonderful connection between her and Lily, that takes her character and gives her some purpose. The show does a brilliant job of taking secondary characters and pushing them further, making the series more of an ensemble show.
However, she ranks lower as Ola lacks in a few ways compared to others. Firstly she still feels like a promoted side character and not a fully leading role, and unfortunately, she isn't as entertaining as the others. Everyone else has either ample amounts of comedy or some brilliant conflict, but Ola has little of either.
Her openness to change makes her development less exciting, for example, upon discovering her pansexuality, she accepts it instantly. While this is a wonderfully progressive message, for storytelling purposes, it does mean that she loses an avenue for conflict.
