6. It Relies Less On The Sex Clinic Gimmick

The entire conceit of the show's first season saw Otis and Maeve teaming up to charge their fellow students for sex advice, and it always felt like a relatively daft conceit in a show that's otherwise uncommonly grounded about matters pertaining to sex.
It wasn't easy to believe that 16-year-olds would actually throw their money at the local nerdy student to get his oh-so-wise sex advice, especially with Google having so many ready-baked answers available in a few quick taps of a phone screen.
But the gimmick was amusing enough that most accepted it, even if it's quite a relief that season two scales back the sex clinic shtick considerably, focusing instead on the various relationship dynamics in play and how they evolve.
Though the show does find a few creative ways to re-jig the formula - namely installing Jean at the school as a sex "consultant" for the kids - for the most part it's admirable that season two doesn't just rehash the rather credibility-straining original setup.
