It's strange that for such a watchable character dynamic, Sherlock and Jim have only graced the same scene a handful of times in the show. The moment when Moriarty comes to Baker Street to warn Sherlock of the fall is one of the tensest in Series 2, though. He may claim to be a fairytale antagonist, but Jim is only quietly dark in this scene, leaving the utterly loopy side of his psyche at home in favour of cold threats and evil stares. And not only is this scene much more in line with other portrayals of the character, it sets up an incredible finale to the episode.
11. The Fake Explanation
We gasped in disbelief. We cheered as he bungeed through the window and kissed Molly. We frowned slightly and didn't quite believe it after all as soon as we saw Derren Brown. And we were right not to. In this ingenious opening sequence, Mark Gatiss and co managed to fool just about everyone into how Sherlock had faked his own death, with this surreal yet high-octane sequence. The theme tune was also given a makeover, as squealing guitars unravelled to Sherlock ruffling his hair. We might still not know for certain how he did it, but this was one of the more memorable theories.
