The opener of season five introduced us to the uniquely cruel brutality of yet another stakes-raising antagonist, this one in the form of realtor/druglord Damon Pope. Played by Lost's Harold Perrineau, Pope was out to settle a score with SAMCRO over the death of his daughter during a hit-gone-wrong.

Tig was attempting vehicular manslaughter on the leader of the on-again-off-again rival gang The One-Niners, when he accidentally claimed the life of the daughter of Oakland's most notorious criminal figure. This sparked a beef between the Sons, the Niners and Pope's organization which continued to play out until well into the show's finale.

Never one to shy away from violence himself, Tig is forced to undergo a parent's worst nightmare when Pope reveals he has kidnapped his estranged daughter, Dawn. He has her doused in excellerent and set ablaze while the the hapless SAMCOR soldier is forced to watch as she squeals in dying agony.

It's a gripping scene that stirs feelings of deep pain in anyone with a child, as Kurt Sutter puts us through an emotional ringer with a scene so barbarous any sympathy the viewer may have felt for Pope's loss is immediately negated.
