Star Trek: 10 Best Romulan Episodes
7. Birthright
A two-parter that unites The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, this story focuses on two main plots with the uniting theme of fatherhood. One is Data learning to dream with the help of Dr. Bashir. The other is about Worf learning of his father potentially being alive in a Romulan prison camp. Our Klingon has always been distrustful of Romulans and when a Yridian trader spins the rumour to Worf he doesn't trust that either.
After discussing fatherhood with Data, Worf decides that he does need to discover the truth of this matter. If Mogh had not died on Khitomer then his family might well be dishonoured in the eyes of the Empire. What Worf finds is a prison camp where a number of Klingons are living comfortably, including the charming Ba'el. When he tries to liberate them, he discovers that they and their Romulan captors actually live together peacefully, with Ba'el being of dual heritage.
Worf eventually learns the truth that his father did die at Khitomer, so his honour is intact. His broad dislike of all Romulans has taken a hit by seeing them as caring family members. Playing off the ancestral dislike that Klingons and Romulans have for one another, this episode is a strong outing for both species as prejudices are challenged.
