Star Trek: 10 Best Romulan Episodes

This three-part story from the middle of Enterprise's fourth season shows the birth of the Federation as we would come to know it. Strange to think that they owe it all to the Romulans. The Romulans have noted increased activity between the humans, the Vulcans, the Andorians and the Tellarites. They view this as dangerous to them because these races working together is a threat to their own Star Empire. The Romulan Admiral Valdore will use duplicity and manipulation to disrupt it.

The Andorians are attacked by a Tellarite vessel. Then the Enterprise is attacked by an Andorian vessel. Then the Tellarites are attacked by a Vulcan vessel. All of this is smoke and mirrors, of course, each of these ships is actually a powerful Romulan drone ship that uses a holographic field to disguise itself. The attempt is to get these four races to start fighting one another, but their ruse is discovered by T'Pol's quick thinking.

Captain Archer then organises Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites into a taskforce to hunt down the drone and get them all working together for the first time. This alliance would lay the foundations for the Federation to follow. The climax of United sees a taskforce of Vulcan, Andorian and Tellarite ships working together to give chase to the drone ship. The Romulans tried to drive them apart, but only succeeded in bringing them together.
