4. She Acquired A Bar Due To Leftover Production Space

When designing the Enterprise-D ahead of the series, Andrew Probert had not intended for the front of the saucer section to become a lounge area. Therefore, the production model that was constructed for those early years did not have Ten Forward's distinctive windows.

However, the scripts for season two threw a spanner in the mix. When moving other sets around after the first season had wrapped, production discovered that they had slightly more space to play with than they had realised. This, according to Rick Berman, inspired the crew to design an area for Starfleet officers and the civilians to unwind.

Herman Zimmerman designed the actual set, working in designs from Michael Okuda's sketches. Rick Sternbach created the backdrop that sits behind the bar, featuring the Milky Way. Despite the large windows being shown in the various scenes taking place in Ten Forward, it would take the construction of a new studio model in the show's third season to fix the exterior discrepancy.
