Star Trek: 12 Most Powerful Beings Ever

7. The Prophets

The Prophets would become one of the most prominent higher beings in the Star Trek universe, thanks largely to their connection to Benjamin Sisko. The connection was so deep in fact that they organised his birth, sending one of their number to posses the body of Sarah and to ensure that she met Joseph Sisko.

The Prophets lived inside the only known stable wormhole in the Galaxy and it is unknown when they first came into existence. They often claimed to be 'of Bajor', communicating with the Bajoran people through orbs that they would send to the planet over the course of thirty thousand years.

These orbs would cause hallucinations in the minds of those that came into contact with them. That is to say, those who the Prophets chose. There were others that could look directly into an orb and see nothing, like Kai Winn.

They did not often interfere with linear events, preferring instead to remain on their plane of existence. They were known to banish members for acts of evil, such as the Pah-Wraiths and Kosst Amojan. They did however cause an entire Jem'hadar fleet to vanish so that Sisko would not be killed in the assault.

They were the focal point of Bajoran theology, so much so that all events both great and ill were attributed to them. Their final battle with the Pah-Wraith was prophesied to usher in the new Golden Age for Bajor and, as that has taken place, it remains to be seen if this will truly come to pass.
