Star Trek: 5 Best & Worst Guest Star Appearances

Whoever said "Yeah, sure, no problem!" when William Shatner asked to direct Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, was most likely on some form of narcotic at the time. Widely criticised as one of the worst of the Trek films, it's no surprise that one of the worst ever Star Trek performances derives from this movie. On the so-called "Planet of Galactic Peace", known by it's population as a filth infested shit-hole in the middle of nowhere, 3 lucky ambassadors from the 3 major powers of the galaxy (Federation, Klingon, Romulan) meet to discuss absolutely nothing of consequence in a dark damp bar lingering on the edge of a desert. Cynthia Gouw plays the Romulan representative, Caithlin Dar, who by all accounts is a beautiful, confident woman who foolishly believes she can be the saviour of this otherwise hopeless world. That doesn't sound so bad. So why do I hate her so much?? Perhaps it is because Gouw is about as convincing as a beauty queen rallying for world peace. By far one of the most amateur performances I've ever seen. In a movie that has all kinds of problems, you'd have to suck pretty bad to be noticed. When Spock's twisted half-brother Sybok shows up to kidnap (or enlist?) these galactic rejects, Gouw delivers one line in particular that reminded me of a spoiled child giving cheek to a parent after being told there'd be no dessert after supper: "Our Government's will stop at nothing to ensure our safety". She should've followed it up with "SO THERE!!". Pure face-palm. Welcome to 2nd spot Cynthia.

My life is simple. I write songs, sing in a band, act from time to time and I watch A LOT of movies and television shows. My preferred genres are Sci-Fi and Comedy. I decided to write for WhatCulture because my girlfriend (yes, I'm a sci-fi nerd and I have a girlfriend!) is sick of me ranting about films every time we leave a cinema. I do hope people enjoy reading my reviews, although I'm sure there will be many different opinions about every film I review. I respect everyone's right to their opinions so please feel free to comment and debate anything I write. Thanks for reading!
