Star Trek: 5 Best & Worst Guest Star Appearances
3. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry This was perhaps the most ironic inclusion in the Worst Guest Performances category. Majel was tasked with portraying Lwaxana Troi, the interfering mother of Counsellor Deanna Troi in The Next Generation. I remember shuddering with fear at the very sound of her voice or the sight of her name in the opening credits. The ironic aspect of her inclusion, is that she was so irritating to watch, that she probably achieved exactly what the writers wanted her to achieve. On that note, a huge sarcastic thank you goes to writers for bringing Lwaxana Troi into our lives, as if we don't have enough post-menopausal irritants in our daily lives. It's perhaps fair to say that the majority of episodes featuring this character sucked beyond belief, all thanks to her portrayal by Gene Roddenberry's wife. I was much happier with her performance as the voice of the computer which says a lot. The root of this disliking is most likely in her over-the-top attempts at being the embarrassment and the comic relief. It really makes you appreciate your own mother, so perhaps I shouldn't be so hard on her. Nevertheless, I've rolled my eyes at her diva-like stature too many times not to include her.
