3. Andy Dick
I simply had to include Andy Dick in this countdown given his hilarious portrayal of the neurotic hologram E. M. H Mark II in the Star Trek Voyager season 4 episode "Message In A Bottle". We had spent four years getting used to the brisk and efficient bedside manner of Voyagers own Emergency Medical Hologram, the Mark I, when the field of holographic technology introduced his successor, the Mark II. I can not imagine a more appropriate casting for this particular role. Here we have a medical hologram who was created to succeed a perceived "failure" in the Mark I, and the comical arrogance Dick brings to the role provides a perfect counterpart to the sarcastic humour of his older predecessor. Throughout the challenges both holograms overcome to retake the USS Prometheus, Dick gets his point across perfectly. He's like a child reluctantly trying to run before he can walk. He takes pride in his ability to surprise himself as he is forced to learn from the hologram he's supposed to be more advanced than. The duo work so well together you can't help but wish Voyager had given us more Dick (you know what I mean!). This was certainly up there with the greatest comic stories Star Trek ever offered after The Voyage Home.
