Star Trek: Discovery - 12 Easter Eggs You Need To See

7. The Theme

The opening notes to any Star Trek TV show are always something to behold, so it's no surprise to see that Discovery continued the trend with its own nostalgic opening.

Sure, it lacks any opening narration (owed in part to the fact that Burnham, the series' main protagonist, isn't a captain), but it very much conveys the sense of adventure and moral complexity that defined Discovery's opening episodes. It's new, but familiar, and it gives us a whole new theme to listen to when we're looking to scratch that Trek-themed itch.

Like the other Trek themes before it, Discovery roots its own primarily in Alexander Courage's original composition before going on to do its own thing. It's a beautiful piece of music, as are most Trek-themes, but the way in which it sets the stage for the season ahead is particularly masterful. Jeff Russo should be proud.
