Star Trek: Discovery - 8 Reasons Why It's The Best Series Since TNG
5. There's A Budget To Back It
Although it would seem fairly facile to implicate the budget and the budget alone in raising Discovery's stakes, it's truer now more than ever that Star Trek needs to be backed in a big way in order to compete on a variety of different fronts.
That's not to say that previous shows were cheap either; The Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager were all given the finances to tell the story they had to, but Enterprise wasn't as fortunate. That show, situated at the beginning of Starfleet's existence, suffered from a plethora of different ailments, but the fact of the matter is that it just didn't look that good.
Discovery, on the other hand, looks fantastic, and is able to portray the scope the franchise demands with space sequences and action set-pieces alike looking convincing on all accounts. It's a breath of fresh air for a franchise that has so often been constrained by technological limits - particularly on the small screen - and again reiterates Discovery's ambition to portray the mythos to the best of its ability.
