Star Trek: Discovery Episode 3.6 Review: Ups And Downs From Scavengers

4. Stamets And Adira (UP)

Star Trek Discovery Stamets And Adira
CBS

One very pleasant surprise this week was the burgeoning friendship between Adira and Stamets. Adira is working in and around the spore drive, with Gray returning for them to talk together. It truly is a beautiful depiction of a relationship. What is potentially even more beautiful is the fact that, when told about it, Stamets simply accepts the fact that Gray is present.

Both Stamets and Adira have loved and lost. In their own ways, they have regained their lost loves, with Stamets literally getting Culber back from the dead, while the soul of Gray lives on in Adira. There are perhaps no two characters with more in common than these two.

Stamets, as he later tells Culber, is settling into the role of, if not a mentor, then certainly a shoulder for Adira. Though he may not have any experience in handling a tween, as he puts it, they can identify with each other on a deep enough level that they can move past this.

This was one of the best scenes of the episode this week, allowing the two characters room to breathe, while developing them both a little further. This is certainly something that we would very much like to see more of as the series goes on.
