Star Trek: Discovery Episode 3.6 Review: Ups And Downs From Scavengers
3. Another Week Of Dragging Out The Burn (DOWN)
It was said last week and it's being said again this week: dragging out the Burn like this really is getting grating. This week, an attempt at least was made to add a greater depth to the Burn. Burnham suggests that it was not simultaneous and did, in fact, have a point of origin. That itself is quite interesting, if not entirely surprising.
However.
Burnham's actions aside, as they have already been ranted about, it is simply another week of dangling a mystery, or mystery mongering to quote the god-editor Kris, simply for mystery's sake. It is reminscent of Lost and the fear is that it is going to have just as unsatisfying a pay-off as that did.
The explosion of active dilithium truly is a calamity for a space-faring organisation. However, if in one year Burnham has been able to discover this potential goldmine of information - what the heck have Starfleet been doing for the last century?
The explanation 'they have other things to be concerned with' is simply not enough. It is negligence to the point of criminal apathy, if finding answers has been this easy for Michael.
