Star Trek Picard: Every Major Character Ranked

15. Narek

Star Trek Picard Narek
CBS

Harry Treadaway is a very good actor and given the right material, he can truly make a role shine. His performance in Penny Dreadful is one of the highlights of the show and I predict his star will only continue to rise.

The fact that he sits so low on this list is a reflection of the role he is given. Narek is just - flat. He's not menacing and shouldn't have been written as such. He is supposed to be the big threat to Soji for the season and instead he comes off like an immature, whining mess. His relationship with his sister seems to be fuelled by resentment and anger but, apart from a few throwaway lines, there is nothing to further explore this. Added to that, there is a reference to a brother that died and then being the black sheep of the family and a wash out from the Zhat Vash.

The character just seemed to be written on the fly, rather than fully planned out. His eventual attempt to work with the La Sirena crew to stop the synthetics is a twist that wasn't earned, as tears do not a turncoat make.

If Narek is to return for the second season, it is with the hope that he will be given slightly more to do. His backstory is a flop, so hopefully his ongoing story will be a lot stronger.
