Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 12 - 4 Ups & 3 Downs From "Victory And Death"

2. Up - Ahsoka Lets Maul Go

In the midst of their battle with the clones, Maul makes his final getaway on an escape pod. Ahsoka sees this, and, in a pa-Rey-lel with the sequel trilogy's protagonist in its most recent film, tries to use the force to pull the ship down. She can hold him back somewhat, but then Rex calls for help. As a result, Ahsoka lets Maul go to save her friend.

This decision not only sets up Maul as the head of the Crimson Dawn in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but showcases a larger theme of Star Wars. In a controversial yet impactful line from Star Wars: Episode VII - The Last Jedi, Rose Tico says, "That's how we're gonna win, not fighting what we hate...saving what we love." When Ahsoka lets Maul go, she wins because she saves Rex, her friend whom she loves. Even though the odds are against them, the pair survive together, as Rose later says.
