Star Wars TV Show: Everything We Know About The Mandalorian
4. It Takes Place Between Episodes VI & VII
While previously the focus has been on the space between either Episodes II and III or, more recently, III and IV, Disney's new Star Wars playground exists in the space between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
You can see why, as it's a 30-year period where they can really bridge the gap between the movies and flesh out characters old and new, and already we've had a number of books and comics in this timespan, alongside Battlefront II.
Star Wars: Resistance will also take place here, and it's in this very same gap that The Mandalorian exists as well. As Favreau himself puts it, it's "set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order," which is the sweet spot in terms of telling its own story without intruding too much on what came before or after. Indeed, according to previous reports, it'll be set about three years after Return, which would place this show around 7ABY. The First Order was created sometime between 5ABY and 21ABY, so if this is before their creation, then it does narrow that window ever-so-slightly too.
