Stargate Atlantis Cast: Where Are They Now?

2. David Hewlett

Stargate Atlantis McKay
MGM

Rodney McKay is one of the true stars of the show, always managing to save the day at the last moment, even if he is never quite quiet about that fact. He is a genius, but his ego has grown to match his smarts - something that makes him one of the more difficult colleagues to get along with.

That said, he is a truly enjoyable character to watch. David Hewlett, who is Canadian-British, imbues the character with a likable set of annoyances, keeping him above the line of being despised. There are plenty of gags at his expense, including an episode that sees him surrounded by a forcefield that allows him to be dropped from a great height, or sharing his psyche with another soldier who is fused inside him.

Since the show wrapped, he has kept busy. He is a self-professed geek, beginning his career with web design before moving into acting, writing and directing. He appeared in the low-budget, commercially successful film Cube (alongside Star Trek's Nicole deBoer) and would go on to appear in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, That Shape of Water and Midway.

His sister, Kate Hewlett, appeared in Stargate as well as his on-screen sister, Jeannie Miller. Together, they make a fantastic double act.
