Stranger Things Season 4: Volume 2 Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs
7. The Satisfyingly High Stakes
Even though we all know that Stranger Things has been confirmed for a fifth and final season, season four's life-or-death stakes feel positively palpable after being built up so successfully in Volume 1.
Throughout Volume 2 there's a pervading feeling of danger and unpredictability, that just about any of our favourite characters could die.
This is aided by the Duffer Brothers quite sensibly giving almost every major character a dramatic chip on their shoulder - be it a traumatic backstory or unresolved personal conflict - which would make their death poetically tragic.
While the decisions made in this regard won't please everyone, they nevertheless prove the show's commitment to keeping the audience on their toes and invested in the survival of these very mortal, very vulnerable characters.
