7. What Happened To The Leviathans?
The Leviathans were the main antagonists of Season 7. Leviathans served as the first of God’s creations, predating demons, angels, humans and even the soul. The Leviathans became too powerful for God’s liking and he made Purgatory to lock them away for eternity. When Castiel opened the door to Purgatory, absorbing the souls and letting the Leviathans free, they didn’t waste any time conquering America, wanting to make themselves the dominant species on Earth.
Throughout that seventh season the Leviathans manufactured a corn syrup that had been mixed into food supplies, giving them control over the human population. Even though Dean kills their leader (causing him and Castiel to be transported to Purgatory) there are many Leviathans which are left over, confused as to what to do now that their leader is dead.
According to Crowley, with their leader dead, Leviathans are no stronger than ordinary monsters and are easier to kill, but what happened to the remaining Leviathans? There have been many storylines that have crossover to many seasons, but the Leviathan storyline disappeared altogether. Even after the Leviathan leader was killed there are many still across America, no doubt still killing people for consumption. It’s a wonder that Sam and Dean never ran into any post-Season 7.
