Supernatural: The Best Episode From Every Season

11. Season 5 - Swan Song

Supernatural Swan Song
The CW

Another Supernatural finale to make it onto this list (we told you they’re experts at season finales!) Swan Song is most commonly known as the true ending to Supernatural. Concluding Eric Kripke’s reign as the showrunner, the Season Five finale had everything Supernatural fans wanted to see. Filled with heartwarming and heartbreaking moments Swan Song best illustrates what the show has been about from the very beginning – the undying brotherly bond between Sam and Dean Winchester.

Swan Song lines up the epic world-ending battle between Michael and Lucifer and gives fans no hope that the Winchesters will stop the apocalypse as earlier in the episode we see Sam saying yes to Lucifer being his vessel in a way to trick him into imprisonment, but ultimately, Lucifer is an archangel and can see right through Sam and Dean’s lies.

It wasn’t until Sam is triggered by memories of his childhood with Dean that he was able to overpower Lucifer long enough to sacrifice himself by jumping into Hell bringing Michael along with him and saving the world.

The episode ends with Dean leaving his hunting life behind and living a seemingly normal one with Lisa, but not before we are shown a tease of Sam standing outside Dean’s window leaving fans wondering if that’s Sam or not. Oh, and Chuck disappears into a puff of smoke which led to the popular fan theory he’s God – a theory that ended up being canon.
