The Boys: 10 Insane Details You Definitely Missed
1. Homelander's Familiar Speech
Further proof that Eric Kripke and his writers are all masters of their craft and perfectly happy satirising modern America and the media, The Boys features a speech from Homelander that draws major parallels from George Bush's speech following 9/11.
In the scene, Homelander looks over the wreckage of the plane he has just let crash. Then, in an attempt to gain public favour about allowing supes join the military, he gives a overly patriotic speech about he is ready to make everyone responsible for the crash pay for what they've done. At one point, a man yells: "We hear you, Homelander!" To which Homelander points and yells: "And I hear you, brother!"
The whole scene mirrors Bush's speech in the wake of 9/11, when he says "I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us."
This speech eventually led to the seemingly endless War on Terror, just as Homelander's speech gave him and the Seven the chance to operate more freely around the world.
