From the very beginning of the series, and throughout as Homelander felt that everyone around him was either failing him or deserting him, he always trusted Black Noir. The silent supe was a loyal lieutenant to the leader of the Seven, until we wasn’t.

As one of the key members of Payback in the 80s, Black Noir was a supe for Vought before Homelander was ever created by Dr. Vogulbaum. He knew Soldier Boy, was damaged by Soldier Boy, and knew that he was Homelander's father.

However, he never mentioned this to his new team leader. In fairness, why would he? Soldier Boy was the one who broke him, and he would likely want to forget about him completely, but lying to Homelander is one of the worst things you could ever do. Black Noir learned this in a gruesome way, as even though he was back at Homelander’s side, he was brutally killed for his lie.

This was particularly shocking within the realms of the narrative as his entire season three arc seemed to be driving towards a showdown between Noir and Soldier Boy. Anyone who got their hopes up for any kind of revenge was left disappointed.
