The Boys Season 1: 9 Questions In Desperate Need Of Answers

6. Where Is Lamplighter And What Did He Do?

The Boys Amazon Prime

Throughout the pilot season of The Boys, we are fed snippets of information about the illusive Lamplighter. We first hear of him in Episode One when Starlight is announced as his replacement, after he has gone into retirement. Other than that, information is relatively limited.

We are made aware that his power revolves around manipulating fire and that he was involved in the death of high-ranking CIA operative, Grace Mallory’s grandchildren. Other than in a brief clip during the pilot, we don’t see him in the flesh throughout Season One.

It’s clear, given his relationship with Mallory, that Lamplighter probably didn’t retire happily as an old man. With Vought International so hell-bent on retaining a positive public image, it’s likely that this retirement was forced and then quietly covered up when the children’s deaths came to light.

Perhaps The Seven even handed Lamplighter over to Mallory, offering her justice in return for silence. Mallory herself is a mysterious character; originally sending Billy Butcher after supes, only to later tell Hughie that vengeance is just a path to a dead end. However, if Lamplighter was indeed handed over to Mallory, there’s a high probability that he’s no longer alive and will only appear in future flashbacks.
