Combatants: The Flash vs. Reverse Flash
What Happened: After the successful Fireflarrow teamup , Barry and Team Flash receive an interesting proposition from the imprisoned Eobard Thawne. If they built him a time machine and allowed him to return to his own era, Thawne would enable Barry to go back in his own past and prevent his mother's murder. Although he initially agrees, Barry returns to the present with one heck of a supersonic punch to destroy the time machine and knock Thawne to the ground.
The two speedsters proceed to battle it out within the cavern of the particle accelerator; soon, however, Thawne gains the upper hand. He is on the verge of delivering a killing blow when he is sabotaged by his own villainous monologue as ancestor Eddie shoots himself in the heart, ending his own life to prevent Eobard from ever being born.
Why It Was Great: While this was not the first showdown between Flash and Reverse Flash, the containment within the particle accelerator gave it a greater sense of intimacy the raised the danger quotient considerably. The speedsters pinballing off of the walls and broken equipment made for an awesome visual, and Eddie's sudden sacrifice brought a tragically fantastic close to the climax.
