The Flash: 10 Questions We Need Answered Before The End Of The Season

4. What Will Be The Cost Of Barry Getting Faster?

No matter how Barry finally stops Zoom, it’s clear that getting faster is going to be an essential part of it. As we’ve seen with both Trajectory and Zoom, however, speed often comes at a cost.

What’s particularly troubling is how ready Barry is to do whatever it takes. He raced to inject Velocity-9 despite his friends’ warning about the effects. Likewise, he threatened the entire timeline by going back to talk to Thawne last episode. He’s getting more reckless about going fast and it seems apparent that there will eventually be a cost for this.

The show evidently cannot kill Barry or strip him of his powers for long, but that doesn’t mean that one of these attempts won't still hurt him physically. If he does pursue a tachyon-based solution, who knows what the side effects could be. Perhaps he becomes addicted to going faster, or loses the ability to go slow at all. There’s any number of ways the show could punish his attitude and make sure there's a high cost to stopping someone as formidable as Zoom.
