The Flash: 10 Things We Learned From The Season 2 Premiere

7. Ronnie Died To Stop The Singularity

Firestorm The Flash
The CW

Despite what the episode’s title had many of us thinking, it’s clear that the real man who saved Central City is Ronnie Raymond. While the Flash kept the singularity at bay, an early flashback revealed that it was Firestorm who ultimately sealed it for good, separating in the middle of the vortex and creating enough energy to completely shut it down. In the fallout, only Martin Stein would appear, with Ronnie missing and presumed dead.

It sucks to have Caitlin go through the same emotional turmoil as last year but it seemed that Ronnie's function as a plot device was the most important thing here. Logically, his powers were one of the easier ways to justify how they dealt with the calamity.

Dead is never really dead on a show like The Flash, though. Whether through magic or an alternate universe, it seems a safe bet that Ronnie will turn up again sometime in the future, but for now at least, the Ronnie we know is gone.
