The Flash Season 4: 7 Problems It Needs To Fix
1. Recognize The Value Of Simplicity
Something that is severely underrated in media is simplicity. Although depth and layers within a character is certainly noteworthy, there's something special about having a simple plot or a small set of colorful personalities to connect with. Back in Season 1, Team Flash was a small operation, including only Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, and Wells. Each episode involved Barry working to become a proper hero as he defeated meta after meta. It was with this simplicity that the show could give each relevant person a proper amount of screentime so that they could become fan favorites.
Flash now largely consists of discussions of time travel and more complex dilemmas while trying to divvy up screentime to a cast of characters that's always too large to adequately distribute screentime. There's only so much time for each hero/speedster/love interest to play a part in the plot, so the showrunners need to find a suitable means of trimming all excess elements.
A big reason why fans love this show is because of its characters, action, and emotional foundation. There's no need to over-complicate the story or add a massive set of heroes/villains. Instead, just go back and offer up the same action-packed, emotionally-resonant episodes that fans love.
