2. Off-Screen Gang War
You know what would have really increased the stakes of the unfolding gang war between the ex-lovers? Well, the gang war. Y'know, if we actually saw it with our own eyes.
That's right, instead of actually showing us what was happening, the writers relied upon conversations between Barry and Iris or Barry and Joe in order to do the picture-painting.
As a result, the gang war felt like more of a gimmicky background event instead of the all-out life-threatening war that it likely was. And, unfortunately, that encouraged the episode's overall lack of purpose.
