The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 10 Big Questions After 'Other Women'

4. Why Does June/Offred Not Have A Bed?

The Handmaid's Tale Other Women
Hulu

When June returned to her room at the Waterford mansion, everything was as she left it. Well, almost everything. This time, she has no bed. Instead, she has only a mattress that sits on the floor in the centre of the room.

The show never dwelled on this, so perhaps it's not meant to be significant, but considering June/Offred is pregnant, one would've thought that she would be getting looked after properly.

Perhaps the Waterfords were concerned that their handmaid would be able to harm the baby somehow so they removed the bed? Or perhaps it's punishment for her escape attempt. Either way, her room looks less inviting than it did in the first season, and that's saying something.
