The Haunting Of Hill House: 7 Most Chilling Fan Theories

1. Young Nell Leaves The House During A Time Loop

In one episode, young Nell disappears and the Crain family spend ages looking for her. Some people theorised that this was the House hiding Nell from them in plain sight to mess with them.

When Nell returns, she says “I was right here, and I screaming and shouting and none of you could see me.” During her wake, the Crains end up arguing and Nell’s casket falls to the ground. This could be Nell saying the same thing – she still just wants to be seen and no one is paying attention to her, even in death.

However, a fan theorised how these two events are actually combined. One theme of the show explores how time isn’t linear, and how events that have happened to us are still happening to us. This explains how young Nell’s disappearance was the result of a time loop relating to her adult self after death.

Nell’s disappearance is her visiting her family at her own wake. This episode is titled ‘Two Storms’ which alludes to what happened – both events take place during a storm, which suggests that they’re somehow happening at the same time. Nell’s presence hangs heavily over her funeral, demanding to be noticed just like when she was a child.

When it comes to time, “everything is confetti.”
