Kevin could have very easily made his way toward the lower end of this list, as he's a representation of the typical loser cast member who everyone picks on. However, the character - portrayed by Brian Baumgartner - excelled in the series as he took this archetype and played it to perfection. It was easy to get frustrated with his lack of understanding and generally poor work ethic, but he had so many hilarious moments which helped him become fundamental to the show.

The character didn't get too much development, as he mostly acted as the dumb staff member in the Scranton branch. Still, he took a lot more agency in the episode narratives as The Office progressed, slowly becoming one of the most utilised and essential characters.

Typically this kind of role is reserved simply as an excuse for a quick laugh, but Kevin was so likeable and full of humour that he transcended this stereotype and, in a way, became the heart and soul of Dunder Mifflin.
