The Simpsons: 14 Most Controversial Episodes Of All Time
4. The Principal And The Pauper
Maligned by fans and critics alike as marking the end of The Simpsons' Golden Age, The Principal and the Pauper had the audacity to take a familiar, well-loved character and reveal him as an impostor. Apparently inspired by Victorian Englands infamous Tichborne case, the episode sees Principal Skinner reveal that he is actually Armin Tamzarian a fraud who stole the identity of the real Seymour Skinner, a Vietnam War comrade he believed to be dead. Viewers werent the only ones annoyed at this big character reveal, and while former showrunner Josh Weinstein ranks it up there with his best-loved episodes, Principal Skinners voice actor Harry Shearer disagreed, calling the episode "disrespectful to audiences."
