The Walking Dead: 10 Most Underrated Episodes

3. Arrow On The Doorpost (Season 3, Episode 13)

The Walking Dead
AMC

Ever since the introduction of The Governor (David Morrissey) earlier in the season, this was the episode things were building up to: a face off between the unhinged leader of Woodbury and Rick.

Orchestrated by Andrea (Laurie Holden), the meeting sees the two strong personalities clash without coming to blows, instead threatening each other, weighing each other up and verbally sparring.

Outside, Hershel bonds with innocent intellectual Milton Mamet (Dallas Roberts) whilst Daryl tries to one-up The Governor's lieutenant Caesar Martinez (Jose Pablo Cantillo).

In a brilliantly written series of character interactions, Rick and The Governor's clearly volatile, unfixable relationship is perfectly contrasted in these outside confrontations, as both sides of the building war come to realise they're not too different from one another.

Outside of the great acting from every main player and the genuinely funny banter that goes on between the mis-matched group, Arrow on the Doorpost is a prime example of how tense the show can be without resorting to violence, because the whole thing is just one big mind game.
