The Walking Dead: 10 Most Underrated Episodes
2. What Happened And What's Going On (Season 5, Episode 9)
Before it was released, Robert Kirkman stated that season five's mid-season premier was going to be a "fan favourite" and a "fan hated" episode because of how shocking and daring it is.
Needless to say, What Happened and What's Going On is a shocking episode, but to hate it should really be impossible.
As Rick, Michonne, Glenn and Tyreese (Chad Coleman) head with Noah (James Tyler Williams) to his old neighbourhood, Tyreese finds himself bitten and succumbing to the bite whilst separated from the others.
As he slowly dies, he hallucinates conversations with those who have recently died but played a big part in his life, including The Governor, Beth (Emily Greene), Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino), Mika (Kyla Kenedy) and Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr). He tells them he wants to keep fighting and won't give up, whilst his hallucinations keep telling him to let go and join them.
It's a shocking and completely unique episode of the show, showcasing a phenomenal performance from Chad Coleman and allowing fans to see the full effects a bite has on someone's mind. With its striking visuals and cruel twists, it hammers home the fact that the group is more broken than ever.
