The Walking Dead: 8 Insane Ways The TV Show Should End

7. It Was All A Dream

Any movie or TV show which ends with this familiar trope often comes under fire, but in the case of The Walking Dead, it could actually work really well. The events of the series being a creation of Rick Grimes' comatose and damaged mind makes more sense than him seemingly being the only surviving patient in the hospital and finding his still alive family remarkably quickly after waking up in a state as huge as Georgia. Rick coming out of that coma and seeing Shane, Lori, and Carl all standing around his bed would be something of a happy ending, but one which could be deemed very unsatisfactory. However, when you look back at the ways TV shows have ended in the past, there's really nothing to say that this one won't mess with viewers through this sort of conclusion, especially if it was handled in an ambiguous manner. For example, just imagine Rick being killed in the closing moments of the show, only for him to then wake up in the same hospital we saw in the season one premiere. Viewers would be left wondering if the whole thing was a dream or if Rick waking from a nightmare was just what he imagined and hoped for during his final moments. Either wait, it could work! Of course, comic book creator Robert Kirkman going on record to say, "Rick is NOT still in a coma. The events of TWD are definitely happening," appears to debunk this one, but would he really say if it was a dream?
