The Walking Dead: Every Season 9 Episode Ranked Worst To Best

12. The Bridge

The Walking Dead
AMC

Following on from A New Beginning, The Bridge gives new tension to the feud between the communities and the former Saviors now living with them. It opens and closes with Rick talking about his hopes for the future to a fatigued and imprisoned Negan, and features some game-changing developments along the way.

For one thing, The Bridge gives insight into why Rick kept Negan alive, and how he's using him as a symbol of what's past. It also introduces the presence of someone killing the former Saviors, and uses Daryl to focus on the growing conflict.

Violent and shocking, the episode sees Aaron lose his arm (like Rick in the comics), but ends on an ambiguous but hopeful note by allowing Rick to really explain what he wants from the new world. Looking back, it's quietly tragic, and features one of the show's all-time great walker kills.
