The Walking Dead Season 11 Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From "Hunted"

8. The Jarring Tone Changes

The Walking Dead
AMC

Since I'm talking about the episode's inconsistencies, I may as well double-down and mention the tonal issues, of which there are almost too many to count.

Seasons nine and ten knew exactly what they were, and they carried with the stories with a consistent, well-planned feeling of horror and dread throughout. But Hunted ruins the show's recent win streak, by trying to balance as many themes and tone changes as possible.

It's simultaneously dark, action-packed, darkly humorous and calm, and moves between these feelings without much tact of foresight.

As is the case with the pacing, the tonal flaws make Hunted a tough episode to properly focus on, which sucks considering how good the show is at doing each of the episode's plotlines individually.
