The Walking Dead Season 8: 9 Things We Learned From SDCC 2017

5. Maggie Is A True Leader Now

Maggie started to make the step up to being a real leader in Season 7, after some hints towards that towards the end of the sixth. She's certainly challenging Gregory's position at Hilltop, and joined Rick in giving a big speech in the Season 7 finale.

That arc clearly continues in Season 8, as we see Maggie really taking charge. She gives one of the big speeches we hear in the trailer, and looks like an instrumental part of things, which is befitting of both her status on the show and her role in the comics at this point.

Gregory, meanwhile, is still ostensibly on the same side, appearing with her at the Hilltop, but it's difficult to see that arrangement lasting too long. He doesn't appear much in the trailer, which suggests he won't be long for this world, especially if he's trying to go behind the backs of Maggie and Rick.

On the topic of Maggie, Lauren Cohan also spoke at Comic-Con about Maggie's baby (which is surely due at some point in Season 8!), saying:

"...What [Glenn] would have wanted to expose the baby to is that bravery and comedy and impulsive energy that he had. I hope that everybody of the family that is alive is going to pass those things on and tell those stories to this new little girl or guy, as well as who Hershel was and who Beth was and Abraham was."
