The X-Files: 10 Best Characters Only In One Episode
1. Clyde Bruckman (Clyde Bruckman's Final Response)
A sweet and unassuming old man is discovered to have psychic powers and unwillingly becomes entangled in a serial killer's plot to kill many other psychic people to find out why he is killing those people. While this episode also introduces the recurring joke psychic character of the Stupendous Yappi who most likely is a fraud, Clyde Bruckman proves to be thankfully the real deal and a much more meaningful character.
Starting off as a simple life insurance salesman, Bruckman's dramatic and comedic moments in the episode are also some of the best of the season, especially his sarcastic interactions with Mulder who kept pushing him to use his powers to assist in the case.
Scully and Bruckman develop an interestingly deep connection, as they flirted with each other often. Bruckman even jokingly said how they would end up in bed together, which Scully politely declined. In the end, Bruckman saves Mulder's life by seeing his "death" which actually turns out to be the serial killer's death by Scully's hand.
Bruckman has one of the saddest deaths in the X-Files, killing himself with pills and a plastic bag that drove Scully to tears, sitting on his bed as he had foreseen. Bruckman gave Scully a new dog as a parting gift from his elder neighbor who had died of natural causes, ending arguably one of the best characters on the X-Files who would have been a perfect recurring character if he survived.
