There will be several previously established MCU characters making their return to the franchise in WandaVision, and while it will be interesting to see how Darcy Lewis and Jimmy Woo fit in to proceedings, by far the most anticipated appearance is that of Monica Rambeau.

The character made her MCU debut in Captain Marvel as a child living in 1995. Now, 30 MCU years later Monica will be returning, played by Teyonah Parris and seemingly having a big role to play in WandaVision. One theory, fuelled by the powers Monica has possessed in the comics, and her blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in the trailer, believes that Wanda will give Monica the powers to become the new Captain Marvel.

The only glimpse we see of Parris' character in the official trailer shows her flying through the air as if she has been hit with something powerful. While any normal human would struggle to get up from such a hit, Monica gives an almost confident, knowing look, as though she is still learning what she can do with a new power.

Set photos have seemingly confirmed her involvement with SWORD, which could be what brings her into Wanda's path in the first place, and somehow traversing between the real world and Wanda's fabricated reality could see her imbued with the kind of powers to either become the new Captain Marvel, or the first Photon, Pulsar, or Spectrum. She has held all these titles in the comics, so it is up to Marvel which direction they choose to take the character.
