X-Men ’97: 10 Things We Want To See

7. More Classic Stories

X-Men: The Animated Series had a couple of original storylines but heavily relied on the plots from the comics almost verbatim. Over the years, they adapted classic tales including Days of Future Past, Asteroid M, Proteus, and The Dark Phoenix Saga.

Nevertheless, there are still plenty of popular story arcs in the comics which the series never touched on. The Trial of Magneto. The Fall of the Mutants. The Mutant Massacre. Considering the Krakoa storyline is the comic that single-handedly turned X-Men into a smash hit, it's baffling it hasn't been adapted beyond the page.

Not only are there a lot of great stories to adapt, there are also a ton of terrific villains that can be used. If the mutant superheroes venture to space, why not have them encounter The Brood? The X-Men have battled the evil aliens for decades in the comics so it's surprising they never appeared in the 1992 cartoon.

Why not have the X-Men battle Bastion? Or Ozymandias? Or William Stryker? Or Onslaught? Even though the original series used a lot of excellent villains and incorporated dozens of thought-provoking storylines, it's clear there are still plenty more to choose from.
