10 Most Anticipated Returns In UFC History
1. Georges St-Pierre (UFC 217)
This one is just plain outrageous.
You know by now that Georges St-Pierre is one of the greatest to ever put on the fingerless gloves, but even he didn't have any right to do what he did in 2017.
After spending nearly three years away from the Octagon - voluntarily vacating the Welterweight title in 2013 because he wanted some time off - GSP started to re-negotiate a return to action in June 2016.
This tease already got the fans buzzing, but they would have to wait a little longer for the full confirmation of his re-signing with the company. That came in February 2017.
Yet, all those who expected him to return to the division he owned for 2,204 days were completely swerved.
Dana White announced that he would be taking on Michael Bisping for the Middleweight title. After moving the fight from UFC 213 due to a GSP eye injury, UFC 217 in Madison Square Garden was set as the location for the showdown.
Bearing in mind that his last contest took place at UFC 167, fans were rightfully cautious of what condition GSP would actually be in.
They didn't need to be.
He would go on to submit Bisping in the third round and win his one and only Middleweight title, making him a multi-weight champion in the process.
The sudden vacation of the title - 34 days after winning the belt - took nothing away from the audacity of the whole event and left fans wanting more from the Canadian.
He's been teasing fights ever since, so who knows what's next for GSP?
