10 AEW Revolution 2021 Impulse Reactions

1. Out Of His Cage

Christian Cage
AEW

Christian Cage debuted as AEW's newest star in a moment sadly defined by all the things it wasn't rather than what it was.

What it was was the arrival of a beloved in-ring force with huge pedigree, a bit of WWE shine and love and respect from all corners of the industry. With his TNA name and theme to boot, Cage brought his quiet charisma to Daily's Place and scribbled his signature on a contract that had been placed in the middle of the ring. He promptly f*cked off too, presumably so his first words can form part of a major promotional push for this week's Dynamite.

Speaking of major promotional pushes, Tony Khan can be blamed for tempering some actual magic here thanks to his overblown promotion for the former World Heavyweight Champion. People - your writer included - love Christian, but Khan's sales pitch went beyond the payoff and not for the first time. It's an unwelcome habit even if it's inadvertent and just misplaced enthusiasm, particularly when people have to shell out money for it.

More so than the dud of an explosion at the conclusion, the event probably would have been able to live or die by this meeting expectations. Through no fault of 'Captain Charisma's, it did not.
