10 AEW Revolution 2021 Impulse Reactions

2. Kenny Omega (c) Vs. Jon Moxley

There was an awful lot to enjoy about this, even if you're not of a particularly ghoulish persuasion when it comes to your pro wrestling tastes.

The struggle felt immense and real. The more Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley suffered the pain and punishment of the barbed wire and explosions, the more their major moves and strikes felt like deathblows. Meanwhile, the countdown to 30 minutes - when the whole f*cking thing went up in a big explosion - added immense tension to the bout's final third, particularly when Moxley kicked an exploding rope in desperation just to survive a One Winged Angel.

The contest itself didn't use it, but we'd find out why before the show went off the air.

After the Good Brothers helped Omega defeat Moxley with a horrific One Winged Angel on two steel chairs, the countdown clock sent them scurrying to the back with the handcuffed former Champion left alone in the ring. A great heat segment got even better when Eddie Kingston arrived to try and save his friend from the carnage...until there was no carnage to speak of.

The final explosion was disastrously naff. A dream for enemies of the promotion and hack gag writers alike, the show that lights the fuse and brings the boom once a week failed to do so after literally promising it in the build-up. That Moxley and Kingston sold its after-effects will be AEW's biggest hurdle heading into Wednesday's show.

It wasn't the evening's only damp squib...
