An almost father/son relationship would perfectly sum up the dealings between Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels. Acting as a petulant child at times, the wrestler had to be reigned in by his boss, who filled the role of a father figure at times for HBK. In later years, it was surprisingly the head honcho himself who performed most of the childish behaviour. According to Michaels, McMahon routinely tried to poke fun at his part-time schedule upon his return to WWE in 2002. Every single time, the grappler would simply fire barbs back at the boss, which obviously didn't sit well with Vince. Several former WWE writers noted that the pair had a strange relationship, probably because they had known one another for such a long time. Numerous times over the years, the pair clashed regarding creative direction. During the whole 'Montreal Screwjob' era, Michaels made things extremely difficult, refusing to do jobs to Bret Hart. In fairness, Hart can't cover himself in full glory either, his refusal to work with Michaels on occasion fanned the flames. Nonetheless, Shawn did collide with Vince over the situation, which must have made for an interesting atmosphere backstage.
