For decades, wrestling fans would speculate on what would happen when Vince McMahon retired. Many assumed he would never step down, as he would either die in office or simply live forever. Then, on June 17th 2022, it happened.

McMahon announced in a tweet that he was retiring from WWE. This came off the back of a huge scandal involving allegations of sexual misconduct and secret hush money payments. The story got increasingly more complicated over the next few years, most notably through the ultra-distressing lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant.

Vince McMahon is the most notable wrestling promoter of all time, responsible for all sorts of moments both bad and good. His personal life has always cast a shadow over his work, however, and his monstrous actions finally came back to bite him.

Even though he is gone from WWE (at time of writing), the sad likelihood is that McMahon will never truly face justice. His departure from the company he helped build is one of the most remarkable wrestling news stories of all time and you get the feeling that it's far from over.
